The West Goshen Historical Commission, along with the West Chester Borough Historical Commission, hosted around 40 people for their joint effort on a tour of Historic Oaklands Cemetery on Memorial Day. It was a perfect weather day and the small group tours were well received by those attending the event.

Next up on the West Goshen Historical Commission docket is a "save the date" for September 28, 2023 at the West Goshen Township Building where we will have Registered Professional Archeologist, Wade Catts, speak to us on: Archaeology and the Preservation of Sites of America's War for Independence.  His illustrated lecture will offer an overview of current regional and national  efforts for investigating and safeguarding Revolutionary War battlefields and military sites.  His talk will include new insights into the Brandywine Battlefield. He will discuss the history, preservation, and archaeology of these historic sites.  This is interesting as we approach our sesquicentennial of America's independence.

Mr. Catts has been involved as a Registered Professional Archeologist for over 40 years. He currently is serving as President and Principal Investigator of South River Heritage. In 2016, he was awarded the Archibald Crozier Award for Distinguished Achievement in and contributions to Archaeology from the Archaeology Society of Delaware. In 2023, he, and his project team, received a New Jersey Historical Commission Award of Recognition for the historical significance of Red Bank Battlefield Archaeology.

Another "date' to save is early to mid December 2023. The date has not been finalized yet at this point.  It will be "An Evening With Thomas Jefferson"  News of our December event will appear as plans are formalized.
