Christine Knapp, director of Philadelphia’s Office of Sustainability, was invited by the Township’s Board of Supervisors to speak at the August 17 Board meeting to offer support and best practices for a ban on single use plastic bags in West Goshen. According to Supervisor Ashley Gagne, who is the Board’s liaison to the SAC, “She was wonderful and will make a great resource and ally for us going forward on other projects as well.”
After Ms. Knapp spoke, the Board voted to draft the Township’s own plastic bag ban Ordinance with four out of five members in favor. A completed draft will be presented to the Board for review, whereupon receiving approval, it will be advertised for a public hearing to gauge support for the ordinance. The Board will vote on its adoption after the hearing.
Supervisor Gagne is cautiously optimistic, stating “Between now and then, a lot of thought and deliberation will occur to create an ordinance that works for our Township and achieves our environmental sustainability goals.”
